Piazza Duomo

The facade of the Cathedral of Spoleto, which was built on the site of the ancient cathedral of Santa Maria del Vescovato from 1155 onwards, is divided into three levels. The first includes the renaissance portico that was realised by Ambrogio d'Antonio Barocci and his workshop between the end of the 15th and the beginning of the 16th centuries, as well as the central and two side doors; the second features five rose windows competed in the 12th century; the third, decorated with three pointed arches, houses a mosaic realised in 1207 by Solsterno. Inside, visitors will find, among other works, a bust of Urban VIII by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, frescoes by Pinturicchio, Annibale Carracci and Filippo Lippi, a Cross painted by Alberto Sotio in the left aisle and a letter signed by St. Francis in the Chapel of Relics.
