Synopsis

In the beginning was the Lord, soloist of creation, who set the universe to music and with his remaining breath animated man.

Zephyrus copied its hissing in vain, but only the human whistle would be the truthful imitation of the divine breath.

Valentino Zeichen

The whistle is a sound, neither song nor instrument, unusual in music, a mysterious sound. It is like playing with your mouth closed, in secret. It is a strange sound, always hovering between a pure note and a shrill one. The whistle cannot be set like the voice; in him is the soul of the person, unfiltered. Of all sounds it is the most human, the least infallible. In the East, birdsong is the voice of the soul, and birds are the medium through which the soul is reunited to God: the performance brings to the stage a dialogue between the human voice of Iaia Forte and that of the birds-soul, through the melodic whistle of Elena Somarè, accompanied by musician Lincoln Almada.

Director Maddalena Maggi has compiled a number of texts from various literature to create a bestiary dedicated to the winged beings that dot the literary works, poems and essays of the most diverse cultures and eras; from Mansfield to Cantarelli, via La Capria, Trilussa and Loria. An Imaginary Volary, a mixture of anecdotes, tales and poems that partly make you laugh, partly move you, and partly make you doubt the line between truth and legend.

It is a journey through the symbols, myths and legends evoked from these creatures. Under arm to the word and tales is music and melodic whistling, to make sure that the stories have their own soundtrack played live. Three characters on stage, united by the common thread of lyric storytelling.

In 2011, under the patronage of the Municipality of Rome, in the splendid Casina di Raffaello, inside to Villa Borghese, "Il fischio magico" (The Magic Whistle) was inaugurated, a large multimedia solo exhibition for which he made his first compact disc whose songs form the background music of the photographic exhibition and videos. In the same year, at the Ministry of Culture, in the ancient Jesuit library "Sala della Crociera," he inaugurated the 13th Culture Week, with a personal anthological exhibition and a concert for Whistle Tiorba and Harp. In 2013 for "I concerti di Palazzo Mezzabarba" he performs in the Council Chamber of Pavia City Hall with a concert for whistle and Renaissance harp.
