Synopsis

Italy is a multiracial country. Our tradition of emigrants has not prevented disturbing phenomena of intolerance, often due to a lack of knowledge of the culture of those living next door to us.
Fratelli d'Italia? is discovery and dialogue with different worlds. Universality is not only globalization of markets, but also the possibility of communicating one's humanity and culture.
Brothers of Italy? places immigrants of different backgrounds and experiences side by side, who tell on stage the stories, needs and dreams, which brought them to Italy. The stories become a text, written from Pietro Favari.
The show by Franco Gervasio, features music by Paolo Marzocchi and costumes by Laura Strambi Ferrini.
Strong emotions, fused in a dreamlike dimension, evoke the atmospheres of the performers' countries of origin; their experiences are reminiscent of the mythical hero's journey.
Another protagonist is the Italian, "interpreted" from a well-known character, interlocutor, interviewer, provocateur and host of the show.

Fratelli d'Italia? was born from the meeting of Creativity® International Arts Factory with an idea of Pietro Favari, an author sensitive to immigration issues. His proposal to create a show through the stories collected from interviews to people from from every part of the world, immediately found our support. The hospitality of Festival dei Due Mondi, further motivated and accelerated the project. After collecting about fifty interviews, Pietro wrote the text that we staged, choosing, on the basis of potential expressive abilities and willingness to make an ongoing commitment, a group that became spokespeople for all the people interviewed. Training was done with them to enable all of them to acquire the basics of expressiveness and discena techniques.

The group expanded to Paolo Marzocchi, an excellent composer and pianist, who collected the suggestions of the lands from where our protagonists come from and made an intense and continuous soundtrack. The music underlies, as always in my shows, the whole performance; it is its soul, a word that expresses itself in a universal language and touches the sensitivity of the spectators. Laura Strambi Ferrini had the very effective idea of mixing the performers' present-day clothes with memories of their lands: fabrics researched and found in distant quarters, to sometimes owned by the protagonists themselves or unearthed in archives and secret collections. Lived fabrics®, as she calls them and as the stories told are.

The result is a show with strong emotions, a bit dreamy, fairy tale-like, following in the footsteps of the storytellers who all over the world, from Africa to Eastern Europe, from Latin America to the lands of the Indian Ocean, cheer up holidays and entertain adults and children with tales of ancient myths, of distant exploits, of heroes such as Ulysses was or other mythical travelers in search of the miracle. That golden fleece that today could also be represented by just from a job, to make an honest living from one's own.
