I am happy to present the 65th edition of Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto and turn the spotlight on the playbill that hosts the best performance experiences to international level, enhancing theaters, outdoor spaces and unconventional venues, of which Spoleto offers a unique concentration in Italy. This year's programming again follows the Festival's multidisciplinary vocation and weaves a web of cross-relationships across the individual arts that is condensed around to three programmatic lines: the music of the two Worlds, women's voices and new ways of telling music.

The musical proposal looks at the relationship between the two sides of the ocean, a link of which from always Gian Carlo Menotti has been a promoter, and embraces multiple languages thanks in part to the presence of the two orchestras in residence, the Budapest Festival Orchestra, accompanied by principal conductor Iván Fischer, and the Orchestra of the 'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia with Antonio Pappano. I am proud that such an extraordinary artist as Barbara Hannigan accepted the invitation of a "carte blanche" at the Festival that allows us to hear her on multiple occasions and for different musical experiences. Browsing through these pages you will find excellent names,
from jazz to electronic, from baroque to contemporary. from don't miss the midday concerts, with musicians from the Budapest Festival Orchestra presenting a tribute from the Festival to Gian Carlo Menotti and those of the Sentieri selvaggi ensemble engaged in an extensive review of American music. to late evening music also returns to the Teatrino delle 6 with a performance by Tovel, pseudonym of composer Matteo Franceschini, between prepared piano sculptures and electronic processing. And then there are the voices of Angélique Kidjo, Mariza and Dianne Reeves from heard at Piazza Duomo in their special concerts for Spoleto.

So many are the women I have involved in this adventure, because I believe in the revolutionary force of their work on the border between dance, music and theater: find the artistic experiences of Germaine Acogny, founder of the École des Sables, or Spain's Blanca Li, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker's newest show or director Jeanne Candel. With her, Samuel Achache leads us into a new musical theater experience. I wanted to pay tribute to an icon of contemporary dance like Trisha Brown by inviting the company that bears her name, but I look forward to you discovering the work of Alexander Vantournhout, Ayelen Parolin, Luz Arcas and her company La Phármaco, or Yoann Bourgeois.

Of the theater, director Thomas Ostermeier is certainly an undisputed master, while Leonardo Lidi, already known last year and a new voice in Italian dramaturgy, returns. Fabio Cherstich stages for the first time the literary success of writer Katharina Volckmer. Davide Enia and the RezzaMastrella duo stand out for their innovative language. Around the official playbill many are the events organized by our partners: meetings with artists, awards, art installations make Spoleto a living place of the artistic creation of our days. Anselm Kiefer, a giant of contemporary art, signs the official poster of this 65th edition.

Those who have been working on the 2022 edition of the Spoleto Festival have been surrounded from by strong and warm support from the entire city, city institutions, and the Festival's Italian and foreign partners. This support has been invaluable. Just as precious are those of the Ministry of Culture, the City of Spoleto and the Region of Umbria, and their recognition of the cultural value of the festival makes us proud once again.

Foundation staff Festival dei Due Mondi, finally, are animated from passion and professionalism, and their efforts deserve my sincere thanks.
